In 2025, and for the rest of our fur-ture, our goal is to make sure that all cats (and even the dogs and other critters) make it home if they get lost. The list below is a place for you to start when reaching out to your community to find a lost pet.
If you find a lost pet, we also have some details for you, too.
More information coming soon to this page!
Before an incident happens, take a moment to verify that your pet's microchip is registered to you, and the information is current. Using the link below, you can verify that the information is active within the microchip database.

Reporting your animal as lost is important in case it does make it's way to a Humane Society
You will be asked for your contact information, a description of your pet - name, color, breed, gender, unique markings - where and when you last saw your pet, does it have a collar, and if you have a microchip in your pet. If you DO have a microchip # be sure to provide that to the officer taking the report.
If outside of normal business hours, complete the online form here.
After filing a report with your local animal control agency, here are some simple but IMPORTANT things that you should do as a part of your search.
Look for your pet in the area it went missing. Knock on doors and ask neighbors to check their garages, sheds and window wells because pets can get stuck in them. Be sure to bring a picture, too!
Look for your pet inside your home and property, including closets, air vents, cupboards & drawers, under beds (even in box springs), under couches and chairs - especially with missing cats. Shake their favorite treats or open a can of food. If those sounds usually bring your pet out, they just might come out of hiding!
Make sure your pet's contact information is up to date. If your pet is chipped, the company will flag it as lost and send alerts to nearby shelters.
Animal Control - Lincoln, NE is located at 2320 Park Blvd. A quick internet search will bring up a list of shelters, humane society and rescues in your area. Visit the shelters at least every three days in case your pet is found. In Lincoln, NE, they have a 3 DAY HOLD before adopting out an animal, so check in regularly to keep your pet at the forefront of their minds. (Take that picture with you, too!)
Put up flyers with your pet's photo and contact information in places where people are likely to see them. If putting them in a store, be sure to ask the manager where it is okay to hang them. Phone poles, grocery stores, gas stations, veterinarian offices. People do pay attention to these!
The most powerful tool available on the internet. Putting your pet's picture front and center on social media sites will allow other people to share your post - remember to make your post shareable, and include the cross streets of where your pet was last seen (much of the same information that you reported to Animal Control).
There are several lost pet pages on Facebook, and there are different audiences and people watching on all of the sites. Use the tools that are available to you. The admins of these pages care deeply about helping pet owners be reunited with their fur babies.
nextdoor is an excellent neighborhood communication tool. Just like Facebook, be sure that your profile is setup so your neighbors and others can share.
This is not a full list of Lost Pet Pages. Our focus here was to provide those that were in and around the Lincoln, NE area but provide a broader reach. Sometimes our pets get out when we're traveling, and it's smart to post on sites wherever your pet was lost at, along with the ones that you may be most familiar with. (We will continue to add more as we have them!)
The Purrpose - It's About the Cats is not affiliated or endorses any of the above individual sites listed above. This list is not exhaustive or all-inclusive of every resource that you should or could use to recover your lost pet. It is our sincerest hope that you are successful in a quick reunion.
