2500 in 2025

In 2025, and for the rest of our fur-ture, our goal is to make sure that all cats (and even the dogs and other critters) make it home if they get lost.  The information below is a place for you to start.  There are community resources that vary based on your location.  We are based in Lincoln, NE and our resources listed are specific to that.  HOWEVER...if you need help in your location finding information, please be sure to contact us (use the little chat window in the bottom right of your screen) and we will help.

Not only is it important to know what to do if YOUR pet gets lost, but if you find a lost pet, this information can be flipped for reporting or sharing that you have found a pet.  It is every pet owner's responsibility to help when help is needed.

Check the Chip!

...BEFORE it's needed

Before an incident happens, take a moment to verify that your pet's microchip is registered to you, and the information is current. Using the link below, you can verify that the information is active within the microchip database.

The Basics

After filing a report with your local animal control agency, here are some simple but IMPORTANT things that you should do as a part of your search.

Check Your Neighborhood

Look for your pet in the area it went missing.  Knock on doors and ask neighbors to check their garages, sheds and window wells because pets can get stuck in them.  Be sure to bring a picture, too!

Search Your Home - Inside and Out

Look for your pet inside your home and property, including closets, air vents, cupboards & drawers, under beds (even in box springs), under couches and chairs - especially with missing cats.  Shake their favorite treats or open a can of food.  If those sounds usually bring your pet out, they just might come out of hiding!

Contact Your Vet and Microchip Company

Make sure your pet's contact information is up to date.  If your pet is chipped, the company will flag it as lost and send alerts to nearby shelters.

Contact Local Shelters or Rescues

Animal Control - Lincoln, NE is located at 2320 Park Blvd.  A quick internet search will bring up a list of shelters, humane society and rescues in your area.  Visit the shelters at least every three days in case your pet is found.  In Lincoln, NE, they have a 3 DAY HOLD before adopting out an animal, so check in regularly to keep your pet at the forefront of their minds.  (Take that picture with you, too!)

Post Flyers - YES, It Works

Put up flyers with your pet's photo and contact information in places where people are likely to see them.  If putting them in a store, be sure to ask the manager where it is okay to hang them.  Phone poles, grocery stores, gas stations, veterinarian offices.  People do pay attention to these!

Social Media

The most powerful tool available on the internet. Putting your pet's picture front and center on social media sites will allow other people to share your post - remember to make your post shareable, and include the cross streets of where your pet was last seen (much of the same information that you reported to Animal Control).

Facebook

There are several lost pet pages on Facebook, and there are different audiences and people watching on all of the sites.  Use the tools that are available to you.  The admins of these pages care deeply about helping pet owners be reunited with their fur babies.

nextdoor

nextdoor is an excellent neighborhood communication tool.  Just like Facebook, be sure that your profile is setup so your neighbors and others can share.

Tips for Success

  • Stay active on the sites that you post your missing pet.
  • The admins will tag you, individuals will respond with sightings, this is the most powerful teamwork we've ever seen.
  • You'll be offered a lot of advice in what to do to help attract or draw your pet back home.  You know your pet best, but there are a lot of really good people out there that may have thought of something that you haven't.
  • Don't give up.  With a microchip, you have a much better chance of being reunited with your pet.

Facebook Lost Pet Pages

This is not a full list of Lost Pet Pages. Our focus here was to provide those that were in and around the Lincoln, NE area but provide a broader reach. Sometimes our pets get out when we're traveling, and it's smart to post on sites wherever your pet was lost at, along with the ones that you may be most familiar with. (We will continue to add more as we have them!)
