HOW WE CAN HELP

Please reach us at info@thepurrpose.org if you cannot find an answer to your question.

We are passionate about helping the cats that no one has to help them.  Many times this includes cats that are hit by a car, attacked by a predator or other unfortunate circumstances.  Depending on their situation, whether or not they can survive the injury, or if it means making a humane decision for them, we will ALWAYS put the cat first.

We partner with several non-profit organizations to provide expertise in large scale trapping to bring areas, or "colonies", to containment. Containment by all standards is 85% of all cats should be fixed, however, even one female can restart the cycle.  Our goal is 95% with 100% of the females.  Having partnered with The Cat House, Joining Forces Saving Lives, Brave Animal Rescue TNR, Lincoln Animal Ambassadors, Lincoln Animal Control, Beatrice Human Society - we want to be THAT partner.

Even though we are staffed by volunteers, we do our best to help when and where we can.  We drag out our ladders, crawl through the weeds, duck through trees, dig through sheds, barns and garages - and we use our tools.  Cameras, traps and other things that fit a situation.

We ask for understanding if we can't make it there immediately, but we will always try our best.

Our focus for spay and neuter of owned pets are for individuals experiencing homelessness or near homelessness, domestic violence and veterans.  The #1 way to ensure that people find safety, and a better situation for themselves, is to ensure that they can keep their cat with them.  Not only does this help the humans, but it also keeps cats with their humans - preventing surrender, abandonment or euthanasia.  We will use Beatrice Humane Society for the spay & neuter, and will also provide transportation to and from their clinic in Beatrice.  They leave in the morning and come back that evening!

Our Head Meow went through Feline Infectious Peritonitis with her Lucky Lou, aka our Head Treat Tester when it wasn't approved or supported in the United States by the FDA.  Fortunately, we now have access to the medication and treatment protocols with veterinarians.

We will support the initial diagnosis and first round of treatment through Beatrice Humane Society.  We cannot provide funding to private or corporate veterinarians at this time because the cost is prohibitive.  If you personal veterinarian has suggested or provided a potential diagnosis of FIP, we would ask that this information be shared with our veterinarian at Beatrice Humane Society so we can escalate a treatment plan to support you and your cat.

We get it.  FIP is not a death sentence.  It is however, extremely expensive and we have a way to help.

What We Can't Do

Please reach us at info@thepurrpose.org if you cannot find an answer to your question.

We understand the pain, fear and panic of needing to rehome a loved cat, or cats.  As much as we would like to be able to help with shelter, housing or rescue, we are not equipped to house owned or surrendered pets.  We will do our best to provide alternate resources, but we do not have a facilities for this need.

We started our non-profit to prevent the unnecessary birth, and most times death, of kittens.  Many rescues focus on the intake and fostering of kittens, and we can help provide contact details to rescues in your area that may have the ability to help.  We wish we could save them all, but we simply don't have the room, money or resources.

There will be a time when we can help feral cats with these immune deficiency diseases, however, we cannot today.  Given the nature of our volunteers and their own feline families, the risk of transmission for those that we are already caring for is an obstacle. We CAN provide contacts or connections to resources that may be able to help or provide alternate solutions.

We CAN share more about both of these diseases, and help troubleshoot solutions!

About Us

Our Purrpose

The Purrpose is organized exclusively as a nonprofit corporation for the purposes set forth in Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or corresponding section of any future federal tax code, including for such purposes, to provide resources, education, and support to reduce feline overpopulation through humane practices and improve the lives of feral and community cats in Nebraska.

What does this mean?  Making a difference for cats is important.  ALL cats.  We commit to saving lives over hard feelings.  This can be tough.  We care about the people that ask us for help, or that we engage with. Sometimes the decisions that we have to make come down to choosing the value of life, and quality of life, over the way that a human may feel about the situation.   To help us support our community, we are fully committed to education, supporting TNR through other non-profits, sharing resources, helping cats and saving lives is the goal.

Today, our efforts are simple - engage the community.  In the future, the dream is much bigger.  The long term goal is a dedicated cat sanctuary for the "un" cats of our communities.  Learn more on Our Dreams page.

Saving Lives - A Colony at a Time

Truly making a difference requires that trapping includes altering an entire colony.  Containment is KEY to managing overpopulation and the unnecessary deaths of kittens of feral or stray cats.

Once a colony has been contained, making sure that there is appropriate shelter for our community cats is a critical element to a healthy colony.  The Purrpose - It's About the Cats builds, teaches and provides winter shelters to those that need them!

Humane Trapping

Expert trapping doesn't happen overnight.  BUT, you don't have to be an expert to make a difference.  With practice, engagement with like-minded community members, we can connect to use all of the resources available to us through our community partners.

Leveraging different trapping techniques to meet the need of the situation is critical.  Using resources such as cameras, video, surveillance and other visual identification methods, we can learn their patterns.  Some colonies and cats can be more difficult, but with purrsistence, we can bring a colony to containment.

Trap-Vaccinate-Neuter-Return (TVNR)

Managing Feline Populations

The health and well-being of community cats can only be achieved through active and ongoing TVNR.  With low cost spay/neuter clinics available close to the Lincoln, NE area for community cats, we can make a significant difference with our funds in high-impact, critical colonies.

Your donations allow us to continue!

Where Our Money Goes

This wonderful human lovers her cats.  We partnered with Beatrice Humane Society for the largest spay/neuter clinic in Nebraska/Kansas history.  This handsome feller got his vaccinations, microchip and dewormer because of the donations that our followers provide to us.
