The Purrpose is organized exclusively as a nonprofit corporation for the purposes set forth in Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or corresponding section of any future federal tax code, including for such purposes, to provide resources, education, and support to reduce feline overpopulation through humane practices and improve the lives of feral and community cats in Nebraska.
What does this mean? Making a difference for cats is important. ALL cats. Whether it involves education, supporting TNR through other non-profits, sharing resources, helping cats is the goal. Today, our efforts are simple - engage the community. In the future, the dream is much bigger. The long term goal is a dedicated cat sanctuary for the "un" cats of our communities. Truly making a difference requires that trapping includes altering an entire colony. Containment is KEY to managing overpopulation and the unnecessary deaths of kittens of feral or stray cats.
Most times, when a colony is unattended, the heartbreaking truth is that malnutrition, congenital health issues, and illness - upper respiratory, FIV, FeLV, FIP, urinary tract infections, enlarged hearts, flea and mite infections - become normal and always devastating.
Need help with TNR? Most communities have TNR - Trap-Neuter-Return programs to provide low cost support in supporting "citizen trappers" in providing life saving spay/neuter and vaccinations. They also generally implant the microchips to help even these fur babies get back to THEIR home.
Expert trapping doesn't happen overnight. BUT, you don't have to be an expert to make a difference. With practice, engagement with like-minded community members, we can connect to use all of the resources available to us through our community partners.
Leveraging different trapping techniques to meet the need of the situation is critical. Using resources such as cameras, video, surveillance and other visual identification methods, we can learn their patterns. Some colonies and cats can be more difficult, but with purrsistence, we can bring a colony to containment.
The health and well-being of community cats can only be achieved through active and ongoing TVNR. With low cost spay/neuter clinics available close to the Lincoln, NE area for community cats, we can make a significant difference with our funds in high-impact, critical colonies.

In the normal course of a good TNR day, we made a stop at a colony that we weren't quite done with, and captured this handsome feller. What we didn't know is that he had a microchip! When we got to the clinic, they gave him a scan and called me with the mews that HIS MOMMA WAS LOOKING FOR HIM!
